Power level devices range increase

Hi,

I was referring power level devices range and output power for Bluetooth.

I’m curious why range increases so repidly as a function of power. From a Physics standpoint, shouldn’t it require 4x power for every doubling of range? or x100 for every x10 range?

Regards,

Ajay

  • Range is a function of output power, receiver sensitivity, transceiver S parameters, antennae, and the operating environment.  These guidelines were developed by the BT SIG many years ago and IMHO are of little value today.
